I have a question for you guys. I have heard it said that you guys don't like girls that wear a lot of makeup?I'm not talking like bright blue eye shadow or a thick line of eye liner but like wearing a lot of foundation and some mascara?  Well... is that true? Is that really a turn off to you guys? Also, do you guys think that the way us girls try to dress all in style and perfect is cool or a turnoff? I'm really curious to hear your answers!

obviously, i'm not a guy, but i've heard that guys don't like to see a girl with caked-on foundation and way too much mascara. also about the bright eyeshadows and thick eyeliner, i've heard they tend to not like that too much, either.

for me, i don't wear that much makeup because i want guys to see the real me, y'know? it just seems that if i'm wearing alot, it can become a mask. and sometimes even unattractive, in a way. i always remember the verse:

The LORD does not look at the things man looks at. Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. - 1 Samuel 16:7

By the way, emilyjanelle, I really like your quote at the bottom of your reply.
A woman's heart should be so lost in God, that a man needs to seek Him in order to find her.

Hi. (-:

I'm not a guy either but I've heard my brothers and other guys say that they don't like too much make-up on girls. Highlighting features using make-ip is pretty and pleasing, but overdone it looks fake, like you're trying to wear a mask.

Makeup's o.k. but not if you look plastic!

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

I hope I'm not the only guy on here.. Personally I feel as a guy that if it's not caked on or looks like you took an eternity to apply it then ur fine, yes in my views beauty does attract a little but I think it's more about the insides.

Don't worry, you're not the only guy on here... if anyone ever had claim to that title, it was me.

Yeah... basically, from my opinion, makeup is fine until people can actually tell you're made-up, if you know what I mean. (I do drama, so I see overdone makeup a lot... stage makeup belongs on the stage, no matter how much of a drama queen you are off it.)

I like it when my gal friends pay some attention to how they look... I have noticed that girls who pay a proper amount of attention to how they look usually have their insides fairly straight. Call it shallow if you like, but I've found it to be pretty accurate. Yes, if they pay too much attention to how they look, they seem like they're shallow, but most girls I know who adopt the "I want him to fall in love with my personality..." mindset don't really have a great personality.
So, yes, it's cool when girls try to look good- but not when they obsess over looking perfect... or when they shun looks entirely.

yeah! gosh, a few times i've run into girls who (metaphorically) put bags over their heads because...well Lord knows why! they say things like, "he should like me for me." and "i just don't feel like putting on all that dumb makeup."

okay, okay. those are both ligit reasons, sure. but it irks me when girls put like, just NO effort into themselves. because, like william stated, that usually means they're putting no effort into their inner selves. matthew 15:18 says that "the things that come out of the mouth come from the heart". i think that can be applied to what we wear, too. if how we're portraying ourselves to the opposite sex (guys and girls) is just blase and "hey, if you don't like this, i could care less! PAH!" then nobody will like it. that's boasting in yourself, and not in the Lord.

This is a really interesting question. So what age would you say make up is appropriate on a girl? Our neighbor girl, who is 10, will sometimes wear her mum's lipstick and mascara (yes, it looks like she's applied it too!) and it looks pretty ridiculous! My Dad doesn't let me wear any yet, and I'm fine with that. Even if I'm alllowed to wear it when I'm older, I won't be caking it on!!

well, IMO it depends on if the girl wants to wear it or not... but at 10... that's a little young...

Hm... I've been dancing since I was little as, so I've been used to makeup practically like forever. but I think I started wearing everyday makeup only when I was 15. I maybe wore eyeliner before that, but I think I started wearing it more wher I was 15. I've only done the whole foundation, eyeliner, mascara, like the entire lot, since I've left Highschool. Do you guys know about thin lizzy? thats practically all I was with mascara... lol
Oh and maybe coloured eyeshadow, but Im practically 20, so I dont think makeup at a young age is the best choice, it kinda makes people think "stuff" about you that you definitely dont want thought about you.

yeahh, i agree with you, jojo. younger girls (10-14, i'd say) who put on a ton of makeup (foundation, eyeliner, mascara, blush) tend to look way too done up and you just wonder. and other do, too. it's creepy!

for me, my mom let me start wearing eyeliner (and only that) when i was 13. before that i couldn't wear anything at all. after that, i slowing transitioned into everything. now i'm 17, and i wear it all, but never too much. trust me, if i do, my mom let's me know. :p she's very honest about that and doesn't want her daughter looking like a 'coon or babydoll.

so in my opinion, i think girls can start wearing the whole shi-bang by 15-16. it's all what you're parents think, though. :]

yeah, it comes down to parents, doesn't it! I think maybe I'll have a chat to them and see what they think. I wonder if I can use that joke, you know, if you want a dog, ask your parents for a horse.....
;)
thanks for the help!

Hi, In my opinion younger girls have no need to wear make-up. sometime in highschool if a girl wants to she can. I would agree with the 15-16 age. (and when I say these next things I am not talking about stage make-up as for a production or somethings along those lines). When I see a girl who has put too much make-up on it makes me think things like; what is she trying to hide?, Is she insecure with the way she looks?, is she trying to be something she is not?...the list can go on...... Now a little make-up, in my personal opinion, can be quite flattering of the individual.

I am a guy and that is my opinion. I hope it helps

Well i don't speak for all guys but i know for me that lot of makeup it is a turnoff because it distracts from the girls real looks, and the way a girl dresses is up to her if she wants to be fasionable she can and if she wants to just be a regular girl nothing realy trendy then thats cool too.

I absolutely hate it when girls have so much make up on them they look plastic and fake. A little is nice, but a lot? That makes you look ugly, not attractive.

It is trifles that make the sum of life.

Caked on makeup is disgusting. Same thing with the people who try to look plastic. Makeup like that just exudes a lack of self-confidence. But I don't want to say that makeup is a bad thing.

Personally, I think that makeup should be like dress clothes -- pulled out for special occasions like dances or weddings or formal dates, but shouldn't really enter into the equation in everyday life.

I'm not a girl so I can't say this for myself, but does makeup give you more self-confidence? If it does, then it's probably not a good thing to wear in everyday situations. You should find your confidence in God before you worry about boosting your confidence elsewhere, otherwise you'll be dependent on makeup to feel good about yourself (and I think this could be applied to other aspects too, for both guys and girls).

My $.02.

I agree with you Mike. Well said. First you should feel confident in God before seeking confidence in other areas of your life.
