i guess i wld define love as the Bible sorta does. The Bible and the Twilight series show and tell u wat love is. Love never fails; love is meant to be unconditional but itsn't always most of the time ppl have conditional love. If you're tlking bout love as far as ppl- love is when you wld do anything for that person. When sometimes all you can think about is them. If they need/needed you, you wld be there for them. You usually love them no matter wat they do. They mean soooo much 2 you! Love is sorta hard to define. Ppl today overuse and abuse the word love. But the way I like to think of it, and this might sound corny, is that you always no that someone loves you. And that person wld be God. I mean c'mon he sent his one and only son Jesus to die on the cross and save us from our sins. He washed away our sins and gives us a new slate. He loves us all so much no matter wat! He's always there for us to listen to us. Thats wat i define as love.

I would classify love as a lot of things. Feelings, emotions, yeah - but so much more than that too. I don't think anyone can define love, but we can see love reflected in ourselves by God, because ultimately, God is love.

here are a few love quotes that i've had beforehand:

Elizabeth Barrett Browning - I love you not only for what you are, but for what I am when I am with you. I love you not only for what you have made of yourself, but for what you are making of me. I love you for the part of me that you bring out.

James A. Baldwin - Love does not begin and end the way we seem to think it does. Love is a battle, love is a war; love is growing up.

Rosemonde Gerard - For you see, each day I love you more, today more than yesterday, and less than tomorrow.

Erich Fromm - Immature love says, 'I love you because I need you.' Mature love says, 'I need you because I love you.’

Antoine De Saint-Exupery - Loving is not just looking at each other; it's looking in the same direction.

Michel Eyquem de Montaigne - If you press me to say why I loved him, I can say no more than because he was he, and I was I.

Zora Neale Hurston - Love makes your soul crawl out from its hiding place.

Michael W. Smith - Love wasn't put in your heart to stay. Love isn't love until you give it away.

Richard David Bach - We can be loved for who we are and not for whom we're pretending to be. Each unveils the best part of the other. Our soul mate is someone who shares our deepest longings, our sense of direction. Our soul mate is the one who makes life come to life.

Andrew - Love is acceptance. When you love someone, you take them into your heart, and that is surely why it hurts so much when we lose someone we love, because we lose a part of ourselves.

Robert Browning - Such ever was love’s way: to rise, it stoops.

Henry Drummond - You will find, as you look back upon your life, that the moments when you really lived are the moments when you have done things in the spirit of love.

Thomas Dreier - It is better to give love. Hatred is a low and degrading motion and is so poisonous, that no man is strong enough to use it safely. The hatred we think we are directing against some person or thing or system has a devilish way of turning back upon us. When we seek revenge, we administer slow poison to ourselves. When we administer affection, it’s astonishing what magical results we obtain.

Viktor E. Frankl - Love is the only way to grasp another human being in the innermost core of his personality.

Harry Emerson Fosdick - Bitterness imprisons life; love releases it. Bitterness paralyzes life; love empowers it. Bitterness sours life; love heals it. Bitterness blinds life; love anoints its eye.

Vincent van Gogh - Love is something eternal - the aspects may change, but not the essence. There is the same difference in a person before and after he is in love, as there is in an unlighted lamp and one that is burning. The lamp was there and it is a good lamp, but now it is shedding light, too, and that is its real function.

Kahlil Gibran - Love has no other desire but to fulfill itself. To melt and be like a running brook that sings its melody to the night. To wake at dawn with a winged heart and give thanks for another day of loving.

Clive Staples (Jack) Lewis - To love at all is to be vulnerable.

Martin Luther King, Jr. - Hatred paralyzes life; love releases it. Hatred confuses life; love harmonizes it. Hatred darkens life; love illuminates it.

Karl Augustus Menninger - Love cures people - both the ones who give it and the ones who receive it.

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow - Love gives itself; it is not bought.

George Santayana - Not to believe in love is a great sign of dullness. There are some people so indirect and lumbering; that they think all real affection must rest on circumstantial evidence.

Antoine de Saint-Exupéry - Love does not consist in gazing at each other but in looking together in the same direction.

Unknown - We may give without loving, but we cannot love without giving.

Sam Keen - We come to love not by finding a perfect person, but by learning to see an imperfect person perfectly.

ps - i hardly believe that twilight is a good example of love. ;] just my opinion...

Love is thinking of the other person, not yourself. My Mum's definition. Since she's been around for longer than I have (and married 20 years this year), I'm guessing that it's pretty right!

God Can.

love is unconditional and self-sacrificing, someone who loves you would be willing to do anything for you... and i think that 1 Corinthians 13 pretty much sums love up..

yep, 1 Cor. 13 is known as the "love chapter", and rightfully so! it's a perfect definition. even for friendships and any other kind of relationship we have in this life, it's a great fall back when we want to know how to act towards someone.

I agree with emily. I define love 100% based on what the Bible says. Never define love by what a book says. im not trying to be mean, but books do give you a fake and never-able-to-be-reached look on what love is and girls tend to then expect all that from a guy who more often than not, cant give you what you're asking for.

1 Corinthians 13 v 4 - 13
Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonour others, it is not self seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no records of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. it always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. For we know in part and we prophesy in part, but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love.

I base it all on this passage. This is what God determined love to be! If it's not like this, it's not love, it's lust.
Ill leave it up to you to decide...

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live

I also draw a lot about love from how it's defined in the Bible, but I also think that each person views love in a way that is unique to them. For me love is a lot of things. Love is a commitment. A promise to always care. A bond that is forever forged and never broken.

I agree with Corinthians, and John has a good one too.

"There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends." John 15:13

This can be either physically laying down ones life, or by sacrificing things, time, etc. for others.

I personally would choose John 15:13 as my definition for love, because just before, in John 15:12, Jesus says

"This is my commandment: Love each other in the same way I have loved you."

Which leads me to believe that love is sacrifice, and 1 Corinthians 13:4-13 is merely describing the effects of this. But then again, no human is ever capable of perfect love, only to imperfectly mirror God's perfect love.

Nice way to put it Mike!
Yes, basically I look to the bible, as I have mentioned, so any verse describing love, is how I take love. :D
I just use corinthians to judge weither I like someone or actually love them... lol :P

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
