I know a lot of you are homeschoolers that would never dress this way in a million years, but... what's up with the emo thing? I have a niece that is really into that.
Can someone explain this to me???

Hah, I not sure if it's emo, as if it's punk or rocker. Emo is like wearing all black, piercings, dark makeup, skeltons, you know, kinda in touch with your 'dark... scary side' At least that what I've taught it was =D All the other things that my parents think are emo is 'skinny jeans, band T-shirts, big accessories, and things along that line. I have to constanly remind them, that's like rockerish.... "Yea, mom, I wear that, I'm not emo" But still, everyone has there own style, and what people wear shouldnt label there personality, I think people have a hard time doing that. Anyways.... I really don't think you should worry about it too much, most girl teens go through this 'finding themselves' stage, which involves expirmenting with clothing. =] |

| I'd say pretty much wearing all black, lots of piercings, weird make-up (like white foundation, multiccolored eye shadow),dark hair, very dark mascara, skeletons, listen to screamo music and sometimes the more serious ones are into stuff like drugs and Wicca. Basically they're way into death and dying. But I guess emo and goth are pretty much the same thing, so yeah. I think it's creative if you don't take it too far and if you don't take God out of it. |

maddie, i love your last sentence!: i think it's creative if you don't take it too far and if you don't take God out of it. EXACTLY. i used to wear eyeliner two or so years ago but now i don't. if i started to again, is that wrong? not in my opinion. it's my HEART. my parents would know that i'm still right with God and it's just a makeup choice. my hair is colored black right now [AHH! some of you are thinking, haha] and it's been blonde underneath, red, and dark brown. is that wrong? not if my motivations were simply to try something new. i wasn't looking to 'get in touch with my dark side'. that's stupid! i like to experiment with fashion, makeup, and hair choices. my parents are fine with that, as long as my life stays as a witness to the fact that my heart is in the right place with God. :] <3 |

I think that it's just a dress sense and a style. That the world and all the people on it have just made guidelines and rules to be emo as such so if you wear black eyeliner and you wear all black and have black hair... Hmm "Oh Emo" kind of thing. We place people in groups. I attend a public high school and there are many people different sizes, shapes and cultures. I know here that people have specific groups and people they HAVE to sit with and that's because they're the cool people or what ev's and i think this can be refered to cliques (or the movie mean girls). Someone just made a clique an assumption on who a person is and this is what they've done for emo people. Some sterotypical thing says that emos listen to rock/punk music wear black skinny jeans (along with everything else they have being black) Some say that it's just emotional people expressing themselves through dress. Who knows. Me myself? I dress how i feel. I couldn't care what other people think. |

| Some say emo ppl slit their wrists... but I attend a public high school and I don't think it's entirely true... yea sure some emo kids prolly do, but then again I have a Christian friend who used to cut herself, so I don't think the cutting thing has a lot to do with it, but it is often associated with emo.... |

The association has more to do with fact that there are a good number of 'emo' kids who cut their wrists for attention or because they have nothing wrong with their lives and try to make it seem like they do. I had long hair (past shoulders) because I'm going to a military academy and won't be able to have long hair when I'm there (anything wrong with that?) http://www.sanctuaryinternational.com/ Just look here (and check out Pastor Bob's statement of faith if you have doubts about what he's trying to do. He's trying to reach out to people who are normally shunned by the self-righteous kinds of Christians. And anyhow, I've always said to myself that what hides a wolf better than the clothing of the sheep he's trying to attack. I'd be more concerned with 'Christians' who do believe in Christ but who don't have a Christan Worldview and who don't live like Christians. That was quite a ramble... |

| in my school, a tru "emo" cut themselves, but vry few actully do. "emo" style w/out cutting is edgy hairstyles, clothing, and makeup. |
