I'm having some trouble understanding how this works: they told me a girl can't just wear a tank top and mini-shorts/mini-skirts in public because it draws the wrong attention, but it is totally modest for a girl to wear a one piece and mini-shorts (instead of a bikini) in front of the same group of guys and like doesn't affect them. Isn't it like the same thing, cuz the only difference is being in the pool or not...? can any guys (or girls) explain?

To be blunt, it's all about the skin that's showing. A bikini shows off alot more skin than a one-piece (obviously). A bikini is also your more typical swimwear for gals our age when they go to the pool. Guys who are, shall we say, hormone fueled will find the figure they can more easily fantisize about and that's usually the girl in the bikini.

In public, the tank top - mini-short/skirt combo is essentially the next best thing, considering you don't run into many women on the street wearing bikinis on any given day. (And not sure how many would want to [at least in my neck of the woods], considering it is 25 degrees right now! :P )

Hope that clarified things somewhat! :)

One step at time,
I trust these feet of mine,
To carry me on to where I belong.

I know that guys are visual and a friend of mine wore a bikini to a pool party and one of the guys asked her to put a shirt on because he didn't want to see that much of her. I think the tank top is fine as long as it covers the girls and your bra straps (guys get tempted by just seeing straps). What my sister does is she would wear a tank top with a sports bra to cover the other straps and to provide more coverage. Dad approved (who is also a pastor at our church) so she does it every summer. Meanwhile with me, I have to wear a higher cammi under tanktops for coverage. Then short shorts shoe off more leg and first off, it makes the person look like they are wearing shorts meant for a twelve year old (according to what not to wear) and second it causes guys to look (from what my guy friends have said). Pools are a little different because bathing suits have always been less modest then the current fashion trends but still, you want to try and find something that covers. My sister and I have the raise and praise rule and touch the floor rule. If no belly is shown and nothing shows on top, you're good.

But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ

yeah, I do believe it's a good thing to be modest, and alot of you know my stand lol. and I'm not the most conservative person, but I'm not someone who want's to wear the least amount of clothing... that said (very akward lol)
I tend to buy better covering bikini's, and I wear shortshorts... and even my brother (who tells me if I look like a skank, cuz he hates it when anyone dresses like that) says it's not too bad... though he'd prefer me to wear a shirt (which I basically do unless in the water...)
and idk, when you've been around Godly christian guys who are used to seeing girls in bikini's and not thinking weird things, it makes it alot easier...
I had a massive panic recently, but it ended up with a couple guy friends telling me I had nothing to worry about... (and they are the type that will tell you if you're inappropriate...

so idk... i guess it depends... also living near the beach, we're kinda used to it...

Turn up the music
Turn it up loud
Take a few chances
Let it all out
'Cause you won't regret it
Lookin' back from where you have been
'Cause it's not who you knew
And it's not what you did
It's how you live
